Schools soon required to teach web safety (Monday, Oct 13, 2008) — "Schools receiving e-Rate discounts on their telecommunications services and internet access soon will have to educate their students about online safety, sexual predators, and cyber bullying, thanks to federal legislation passed in both the Senate and the House." S. 1492: Broadband Data Improvement Act

Tech Tools
- GradeKeeper — this easy to use program allows you to send progress reports by email, post grades online, and even enter data on your Palm. This program is available to all district staff; you must download the software and enter the registration code (available on the SPS Intranet only).

District Policies/Information
- Springnet — Everything you need to know about acceptable technology use in the district.
- Web Helpdesk — equipment not working? Fill out a helpdesk ticket. Tickets first go to your building's computer coordinator, so if you don't hear anything, check in with them prior to contacting Technology Services.
- Staffhome — all staff have access to the district server to back up their files.
- Staffweb — all teachers have web space available to post class web sites; iWeb (software) is available for all computers meeting minimum system requirements.
- Loan of District Equipment — this form must be filled out and on file with your principal if you want to check out district equipment. Projectors may not be checked out over the summer.

Internet Safety
There are a number of resources that are available online for both parents and educators.
- NetSmartz — resources are available for educators, parents, law enforcement, and students. "This page is designed to show educators and administrators how to use NetSmartz interactive materials in their classrooms, accumulate more information about Internet safety and technology, and take steps to bring their classrooms into the 21st century." Resources are available in both English and Spanish.
- "The Internet Keep Safe Coalition (iKeepSafe) group teaches basic rules of Internet safety to children (ages 4-10) and parents, reaching them online and in school." Educational materials are speakers are available at no cost.
