Sringfield School District actively supports the Family
Resource Centers.
Through grants received from the Lane County Commission on Children
and Families and the district Title I program, 10
Family Resource Centers are in operation throughout the district.
Family Resource Centers are designed to promote:
- Improved child development
- Improved child health
- Reduced barriers to school success
- Improved family functioning
These goals are met in family centers through a variety of methods
including parenting classes, pre-natal education classes, adult
education, tutoring for students, support for homeless families,
clothing fund and coordination and referral to social services.
Family Centers were supported in the 1995 State Legislature through
House Bill 2004. The Legislature envisioned 'a statewide system
of services that is preventative, integrated in local communities,
accessible to children and families and focuses on promoting the
wellness of Oregon's children.'
The Community Family Center program is housed at the Brattain House
at 10th and G streets. The Family Center Coordinator can be reached
at 744-6769.
The Community Family Resource Center at the Brattain House also
provided a Clothing Closet, where families in need can obtain free
school clothing for their children.
