Springfield School District receives federal funds
to support a Migrant Education program. The purpose of this program
is to provide a range of services to migrant children, including
academic support, counseling and communication skills.
Using criteria from the federal grant, Springfield
School District has identified migrant students at the secondary
level as "most in need".
Academic tutoring and translation services have
been provided at high school and middle schools with the highest
migrant population.
In order to meet the needs of this highly mobile
population, Springfield School District also participates in a migrant
education summer school program in conjunction with several adjacent
school districts. Students receive transportation services and continued
academic and communication skills.
Many migrant students are also eligible to receive
English as a Second Language support.
Questions concerning the Migrant Education grant
should be directed to the Curriculum Office at 726-3254.
