Welcome Letter
Principal Jim Keegan
Welcome!
We hope you enjoy visiting the Mt. Vernon Web Site. Under the leadership of Technology Coordinator Cindy Nees, we are making great strides in creating a site that is "user friendly" and contains important information about one of the largest elementary schools in Lane County.
As the principal, I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of our student's academic achievement and scores on state tests but, as you tell us repeatedly, there is so much more contributing to Mt. Vernon's success.
First and foremost, Mt. Vernon is a school that has set high standards for academics and behavior. Through the school wide Guidelines For Success Program, students are taught and encouraged on a daily basis to be responsible, respectful, safe and to excel. This connects to Mt. Vernon being a "uniform" school where we believe that being "dressed for success" promotes a more positive learning climate.
Add to this a vibrant Family Resource Center, a committed PTA, strong parent involvement, an active Site Council, numerous community programs, a thriving SMART Program, and an incredibly dedicated staff committed to quality teaching and you have the ingredients of a great school.
In addition, we know that Mt. Vernon children are amazing and have risen to the academic challenges put before them. We also realize that parental support for a child's education is critical and that our families send their children to school prepared and eager to learn.
Again, I want to thank you for visiting our site and for learning about the Mt. Vernon mission. On behalf of the entire staff, it is an honor to work with the families of east Springfield who make up the Mt. Vernon community.
Sincerely, Jim Keegan, Principal
