Reinforcers for Elementary Students

  • Genuine praise
  • Stickers/stamps
  • Hand stamps
  • "Caught in the Act" Coupon or "Gotcha" Ticket connected to:

  •     - Student Store Items
        - Weekly Drawings for Prizes
        - Auction of Items
  • Lunch with the principal or staff member of choice
  • Student of the Week with digital photo posted on the wall
  • Coupons for video/game rentals or movie passes
  • Phone call home that their student is doing well
  • Post card home to compliment or praise student
  • Referral to the principal for desired behavior
  • Note: Items and activities are determined to be reinforcers by the fact that they increase the likelihood of a behavior occurring again. What may be a reinforcing item or activity for one student may be a punisher for another student. It is important to collect good information to ensure that your intervention efforts are achieving your desired outcome.

  • Handwritten note in my staff mailbox
  • Cover my supervision duty one period
  • Note: Items and activities are determined to be reinforcers by the fact that they increase the likelihood of a behavior occurring again. What may be a reinforcing item or activity for one staff member may be a punisher for another. One way to determine this is to simply ask the staff member how they would like to be acknowledged.
